HOW IT HAPPENED
After a run-rule win on Tuesday over the Blue Raiders, MTSU got the best of the Bisons in a 6-2 decision a day later.
Lipscomb led things off with a run in the first inning. Caleb Ketchup singled through the left side, then proceeded to steal to third base. Alex Vergara was hit by a pitch, and then Mason Lundgrin walked on a full count to load the bases, putting MTSU in early trouble.
Austin Kelly flew out to left field but played the ball deep enough to plate Ketchup for the game's first run. After a scoreless second for both ball clubs, MTSU tied things up in the top of the third on a single to shortstop.
The Blue Raiders then took the lead in the fifth on a wild pitch with a runner on third. They continued to pad their lead with three more runs coming on sacrifice line out to right and then a two-run blast to push their lead to 5-1. Their final run came in the seventh on another sacrifice drive to the outfield.
Lipscomb managed to get back a run in the bottom of the ninth on a blooper by David Coppedge, but the Blue Raiders retired the next three of the Bisons' order to avenge their loss from just a day ago.
Middle Tennessee outhit the Bisons 9-5. Lipscomb also committed three costly errors in the loss. The Bisons left eight runners on in the outing.
