HOW IT HAPPENED
Lipscomb dropped their second-straight game at Ken Dugan Field after falling to Bellarmine in the series opener Friday afternoon.
The Bisons Friday starter Logan Van Treeck took the hill again and started in control with two strikeouts in the first inning, but Bellarmine sent a two-run homer to left field to take an early 2-0 advantage in the visitor half of the second frame.
David Coppedge answered for the Bisons with his second bomb of the week to cut the Knight's lead in half. An out later, Parks Bouck joined the action with a solo shot of his own to even the score at two runs each.
Lipscomb took their first lead in the following inning on a blooper to left field by Caleb Ketchup to plate Will Lee, but an out at second limited the Bisons to just the one run. Neither team added runs in the third, but the Bisons tallied another in the fourth on a double to center field for a 4-2 advantage.
Bellarmine scored three runs in the sixth, which proved to seal the deal in game one, all of which came on one swing of the bat, as the Knights hit a three-run blast to left field to take a 5-4 lead.
The Bisons managed to string together just two hits after the Knights took the lead. Ethan Smith held Bellarmine scoreless in relief for the final three innings of work, allowing just three hits with three strikeouts, but Lipscomb was unable to produce in the later innings offensively.
Lipscomb finished 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left six runners on base. Three of Bellarmine's six runs came with two outs.
As a result, Lipscomb fell for just the fifth time in ASUN play and for the first time in a Friday opener since their first ASUN series against Jacksonville, which was also at Ken Dugan Field. The Bisons rallied in that series' final two games, which sparked their current five-game ASUN series win streak.
Bellarmine edged the Bisons in hits, winning that battle 11-10. Van Treeck recorded the loss after going six full innings throwing eight strikeouts but allowing eight hits with five runs, all of which were earned. The loss bumps his record on the mound to 4-4.
