NASHVILLE - Lipscomb Baseball lost the second game of the three-game series against Ohio (2-0) on Saturday at Ken Dugan Field. The Bobcats struck first and never trailed in their 8-2 series-clinching win.
The Bobcats got on the board with a solo home run in their first at-bat of game two in the series to take an early 1-0. Lipscomb managed to get out of the inning, only giving up the one run.
The Bisons loaded the bases in the bottom, half but stranded all three as the Bobcats held on to their one-run advantage.
After the Bobcats added another run in the third inning, preseason All-ASUN selection, Alex Vergara, belted his first home run of the season to make it 2-1 with Ohio still narrowly in front. However, the Bobcats put up three runs in the four and a run in the fifth to take a 6-1 lead.
Noah Boughton provided some offense for the Bisons late, recording his first home run as a Bisons and a solo shot to right field in the bottom portion of the eight, but Ohio plated two more runs in the top of the ninth, resulting in an 8-2 victory in Saturday's showing of the opening weekend series.
POSTGAME NOTES
- Noah Boughton and Jesus Pacheco, two newcomers, led the Bisons with two hits each. Trace Willhoite also had two knocks Saturday afternoon.
- Jake Poindexter (0-1) was credited for the loss for Lipscomb, while Zach Weber (1-0) earned the win for Ohio.
- The Bobcats outhit the Bisons 12-10. Lipscomb had two errors Saturday compared to none for Ohio.
- Today's result marks the first series loss for Lipscomb since non-conference play a season ago in the Bisons series loss to Mississippi State in Starkville.
- The result also marks the programs first opening weekend series loss since 2014.
