Baseball Hits Three Homers in Road Win Over MTSU

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Lipscomb baseball earned their first road win of the season in a 7-3 midweek victory over MTSU Tuesday evening. The Bisons connected on three long balls in the win, tied for the most in a game this season.

MTSU got on the board first in their opening at-bats, scoring on a fielding error with a runner on third to go up 1-0.

Lipscomb was held in check for the first four innings, not recording a hit, but did their job defensively, holding the Blue Raiders to without another score for the next five innings.

Austin Kelly gave the Bisons their first hit on a solo home run, his second bomb of the year, to right field which evened the score at one run apiece. The Bisons then took a one-point edge on a sacrifice fly from Jesus Pacheco with two runners in scoring position to jump in front 2-1 in the same half inning.

Chandler Giles got the start on the mound for the Bisons and showed complete command in his four innings of work, holding the Blue Raiders offense largely at bay, allowing just the one run in the first with only one hit in his four innings of work.

With two runners on in the sixth, Carter Richey sent his first home run as a Bison over the left-center field wall to put Lipscomb up 5-1.

The Blue Raiders chopped their deficit in half in the bottom of the seventh, scoring two runs on a double to right center, but Trace Willhoite put the Bisons' sixth run of the afternoon and third home run of day on a ball that was crushed well over the center field wall.

Joey Mitchell was called in to close and did his job, allowing no runs in his two-and-a-third innings of work. Mitchell earned his first save of the season while logging three strikeouts in his Tuesday  appearance, none more crucial than the final out as the Blue Raiders threatened with two runners in scoring position in the bottom of the ninth.
