Baseball Swept in West Virginia Doubleheader

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb University baseball team were swept in a Sunday double dip by West Virginia University, as the Mountaineers took both games over the Bisons 5-0 and 4-2 inside Ken Dugan Field.

Final Score (Game 1): West Virginia 5, Lipscomb 0
Final Score (Game 2): West Virginia 4, Lipscomb 2
Location: Ken Dugan Field
Records: Lipscomb (2-4), West Virginia (6-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 1
It was a wild top of the first inning for both sides. After Logan Sauve and Sam White reached base on back-to-back plays, the Mountaineers tried to use their wheels to come across the plate.

After a fly out, Logan Sauve tried to score on a wild pitch, but he was tagged out at the plate by Alejandro Ludeiro. Moments later, after Sam White took third on the earlier wild pitch, he broke for the plate himself, attempting to steal home, but Rigo Ramos got it to Ludeiro in time to get out of the inning without a run scoring.

The teams traded zeros on the scoreboard until the fifth inning, when a Chase Swain lead-off homer put the visitors on the board first. Later, Kyle West added a two-run shot to see the Mountaineers go up 3-0.

WVU added two more runs in the seventh to secure the 5-0 win.

Despite having just two hits in the game, the Bisons had plenty of traffic on the bases thanks to six walks, but they were unable to see any of those runners score, leaving 10 on base.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 2
In the night cap, WVU quickly got on the board with a solo home run to right field by Michael Perazza.

In the fourth, a lead-off double by Aaron Stelogeannis was enough to even the score at one with an RBI hit by Parks Bouck

In the next half inning, West Virginia used a two-out double by Sam White to retake the lead, 2-1, but they would not have that for long, as Lipscomb answered in the bottom half of the fifth. Stelogeannis brought Casey Sunseri home on a base knock to center field.

In the sixth, Davis Rokose worked around a lead-off walk to keep the score square at two runs apiece. After a strikeout and fielder's choice, he was able to catch Spencer Barnett looking to get out of the jam.

In the seventh, WVU was able to see a lead-off walk come across to score in the inning to retake the lead for good, 3-2.

In the eighth, another lead-off baserunner was able to touch home plate, as Brodie Kresser laced a hit through the right side to add to the lead, 5-2.

KEY STATISTICS
Both Kai Holm and Aaron Stelogeannis each put together two hits in the second game of the twin bill.

Stelogeannis and Parks Bouck recorded an RBI each for the Bisons.
