Paladi and Dominguez Collado Reach Finals of Doubles Draw at Milwaukee Tennis Classic

Box Score

ELM GROVE, Wis. – Four Lipscomb Women's Tennis players participated in the Milwaukee Tennis Classic, and for Sofiia Paladi and Deborah Dominguez Collado, it was a weekend they will not soon forget, as the duo reached the final round of the main doubles draw.

Martina Bovio and Serafima Bobrovnikova also played in the tournament that was held at the Western Racquet Club.

For Paladi, it was her second straight appearance at the tournament.

Paladi/Dominguez to the Finals
Lipscomb seniors Sofiia Paladi and Deborah Dominguez Collado, listed as the six-seed in the tournament, advanced to the final round of the main draw.

Earning a bye into the Round of 16 on Thursday, Paladi/Dominguez Collado took down Wisconsin's Ellison Reynoldson and Maya Bordereau in a tiebreak, 7-6 (7).

Down 3-0 early, the Lipscomb duo won the next four points to lead 4-3. Wisconsin took three of the next five to take a 6-5 lead with set point on the line. However, the Bisons rallied back to win the next game and even the set at six going into the seven-point tiebreak.

A back-and-forth bout, the Bisons took down the Badgers, 9-7, to advance to the quarterfinals.

In Friday's quarterfinal against Purdue's Ece Gencer and Sophya Devas, Paladi/Dominguez Collado sprinted out to a 5-1 lead en route to a 6-3 win.

Saturday's semifinal matchup was a battle with Brooklyn Olson and Alice Soulie of Ole Miss. The Bisons got things out on the right foot with the first three games of the set.

Despite the Rebels winning the next point, the Bisons rallied from deficits of 30-15 and 40-30 to lead 4-1.

Ole Miss, after sweeping the ensuing point, started a rally of three straight points to even the set at four apiece.

From there, the match went back-and-forth. Ole Miss, after a Lipscomb double fault, won the final two games to take a 6-5 lead.

For the second time in three matches, the Bison duo had their backs against the wall. Rallying from a 30-love deficit, Paladi and Dominguez Collado won the next three games to even the set at six and force a tiebreak.

The Bisons stormed out to leads of 4-1 and 5-2 early in the decider. Ole Miss made things interesting, however, cutting the deficit to 6-5.

On the ensuing point, with the Bisons serving, they were able to win the point and take the break, 7-5 to play in the championship match on Sunday.

Taking on Isabelle Tanjuatco and Sarah Shahbaz of Ball State, who was the two-seed in the tournament, the Cardinals got out to an early 3-1 lead.

Lipscomb won the next point thanks to a double fault by Ball State that saw them roll off three wins in the final four games.

Ahead 3-2, Ball State cruised to a 5-2 lead by sweeping the next two points.

The Bisons returned the favor, winning the first two games of the next point to make it 5-3, but the Cardinals prevailed and won the final point to take the championship, 6-3.
