DELAND, Fla. – Reigning Atlantic Sun Conference Setter of the Week Kelsey Schenck posted her highest assist mark in a three-set match this season with 48, as the Lipscomb University Volleyball team (10-4, 3-1) swept Stetson University (4-11, 0-4) on Friday night from Insight Credit Union at Edmunds Center thanks to 55 kills to Hatters' 38.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bisons built an early 9-4 lead in the opening set as Ella Durham put down two kills, Sydney Strenger served consecutive aces and Lexi Guinn and Brooklyn Fuchs added kills. The Hatters answered with four straight points and later pulled even at 11-11, but Madyson McCarthy had three kills during a stretch that put the Bisons back in front 15-12.

After the Hatters tied the set at 17-17 on Vitoria Stedile's service ace, the Bisons moved ahead 21-18 with kills by Durham, Fuchs and Guinn. The Hatters trimmed the margin to 24-23 after kills by Soraya Teston and Alessia Bracchi around a McCarthy kill, but a Hatters attack error closed the set for the Bisons, 25-23.

The Hatters scored the first three points of the second set, but the Bisons came back to tie it at 4-4 on kills by Kelsey Schenck and Strenger before the Hatters moved back in front 10-8. Brooklyn Fuchs' kill brought the Bisons within one, and Grace Jones served four straight points, with Strenger and McCarthy adding kills before a McCarthy-Strenger block put the Bisons ahead 13-10.

The Hatters cut the gap to 15-14 on consecutive kills by Kayla Balfour and Karsu Bayraktar, but Strenger answered with a kill and the Bisons stayed in front through the next stretch, reaching 21-18 on McCarthy's kill. The Hatters pulled within 21-20, but Makenna Kirlin's kill and two Hatters attack errors gave the Bisons set point at 24-20, and after the Hatters took the next two points, Strenger closed the set with a kill for a 25-22 win.

After the Hatters moved ahead 5-4, Strenger tied the third set with a kill and McCarthy served seven more Bisons points as the Bisons built a 12-5 lead. The Hatters later answered from 14-8 with seven straight points, including two Kayla Balfour kills and a Vanessa Shevchenko service ace, to move in front 15-14.

The set stayed tight through 19-19 before a Hatters service error and another Strenger kill gave the Bisons a 21-19 edge. After the Hatters pulled within 22-21, Durham put down consecutive kills and Schenck finished the set with a service ace for a 25-21 Bisons win.

HERD NOTES
Kelsey Schenck produced her 10th double-double of the season with 48 assists and 14 digs, becoming the sixth player since 2010 to achieve 10 or more double-doubles in a season for the Bisons. Additionally, she joins former teammate Sophia Hudepohl as the only two setters on the list. Hudepohl had 11 instances each in 2023 and 2024.

The record for most double-doubles in a season by a LUV player is 16 by Alex Kelly in 2010.

Additionally for Schenck, the 48 assists marked the third-highest by a LUV player since 2010. Kayla Ostrom tallied 50 on Oct. 30, 2015 against South Carolina Upstate.

LUV improves to 33-4 against Stetson all-time, winning its seventh straight match in the series and 33 of the last 34 matches dating back to 2004.

Now 16-1 in DeLand, Stetson's last win over Lipscomb came on Oct. 10, 2003, meeting for the first time as ASUN members.

Lipscomb picked up a sweep over Stetson on their home court for the first time since Oct. 26, 2018 (last six matchups).
