Men's Tennis Wins Fourth Straight; Routs Southern Indiana 6-1

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – After a big win by Filippo Verdese and Henrique Ushizima, the Lipscomb University Men's Tennis team used that momentum after clinching the doubles point to take down the University of Southern Indiana by a 6-1 score on Friday from the Evansville Tennis Center.

Final Score: Lipscomb 6, Southern Indiana 1
Location: Evansville, Indiana (Evansville Tennis Center)
Records: Lipscomb (4-1), Southern Indiana (0-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED
After each team took a flight in doubles, it came down to the No. 2 flight between Henrique Ushizima and Filippo Verdese. The Bison duo had to dig out of an early hole after dropping the first three games.

Ushizima/Verdese returned the favor of USI's brothers of Jy Hibbert and Kalani Hibbert with winning the next three. In the sixth game, Lipscomb won three straight points to tie the set at 3-3.

From there, the set went back-and-forth. Trailing 6-5, the Bisons forced the tiebreak to decide the team point. After the Hibbert boys won the first point, Ushizima and Verdese (4-0) did not allow them to win again, as they took the next seven to win the set, 7-6 (1) and take the team point.

Alex Vlahos and Facundo Perlov (3-1) earned their third straight doubles win with a 6-1 rout at the top flight.

After winning the doubles point, the Bisons moved the momentum to singles, where they took two of the first three midway through.

Oliver Thoeny (2-1) cruised past Kalani Hibbert at the No. 6 to open the scoring in singles.

Despite the Screaming Eagles winning the No. 3 flight to make it a 2-1 affair, Oskar Szymczak (13-6) posted 6-4, 6-4 set scores on court five to put Lipscomb one away from clinching the match.

Ushizima (8-9) rallied from a 4-2 opening set to beat Jy Hibbert, 7-6, 6-4, to clinch the match.

Perlov (12-9) and Verdese (12-5) won third sets at their respective flights to wrap up the Bisons scoring.
