Baseball Opens Weekend Series with Setback to Toledo

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb University Baseball team dropped the opening game of a four-game series with the University of Toledo, 5-1, Friday evening from Ken Dugan Field at Stephen Lee Marsh Stadium.

Final Score: Toledo 5, Lipscomb 1
Location: Nashville, Tennessee (Ken Dugan Field at Stephen Lee Marsh Stadium)
Records: Lipscomb (4-4), Toledo (2-6)

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rockets got the first run of the game courtesy of an unearned run by the Bisons' defense in the top of the first. After a lead-off single by Cade Baker, a stolen base and throwing error put him at third base. He later scored on a sac fly.

The Bisons countered in the bottom half with a Keaton Mahan RBI knock to score Brady Miller, who also led off the frame with a knock.

After Lipscomb left the bases loaded in the second and a mistake on the base paths in the third, Toledo took advantage of the miscues with a two-run fourth on an RBI hit and sac fly as the Rockets took the lead into the fifth.

The visitors added on runs in the fifth and seventh to make it a 5-1 advantage, but Deron Swanson's five shutout innings with six strikeouts helped the Rockets take the opener.

KEY STATISTICS
Keaton Mahan and Brady Miller each had two hits to lead the Bisons.
