Baseball Holds Off Late Rally by Lions to Take Opening ASUN Series

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb University Baseball team earned its second series win of the season, and on the opening weekend of Atlantic Sun Conference play, the Bisons secured the series over the Lions of the University of North Alabama with a 7-5 score on Saturday afternoon from Ken Dugan Field at Stephen Lee Marsh Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a shaky start for Lipscomb starter Landon Kiefer, as the first two runners reached for North Alabmaa, but a double play by Dylan Coleman and a Nash Rippen strikeout ended the threat.

In the second, following a single and steal of second base by Cam Pruitt, Jordan Thomas brought him home with a knock to right field to put the Bisons on the board first.

Lipscomb added five runs in the third to make it a 6-0 score. With two runners on, Cam Pruitt went to the races for a triple to score two runs.

Thomas followed with a hustle double down the right field line to makde it 4-0. Simon Scharff and Brady Miller also produced RBI knocks to swell the lead to 6-0.

UNA scored a run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly, and the Bisons got it back in the seventh with an RBI knock by Keaton Mahan.

After the Lions scored in the eighth on a RBI groundout, the ninth was treacherous for the Bisons bullpen, as Rippen smashed a three-run home run to cut it the lead to 7-5. However, Jace Trautner settled in with two strikeouts to secure the series for the Bisons.

KEY STATISTICS
After recording his first three-hit game of the season on Friday, Cam Pruitt followed on Saturday with three more on Saturday, posting a triple and two singles. He also scored twice and drove in two RBI.

Brady Miller, Jordan Thomas and Simon Scharff also had two-hit games for the Bisons.

After Landon Kiefer tossed four innings of one-run ball with three punch outs, Adam Jamison followed with a four-inning performance of one-run ball of his own, striking out five batters.
