NASHVILLE – Some would have called Sunday's match between Lipscomb University and the University of South Alabama a "trap game", but not for the Bisons (4-1), as they came out and swept the Jaguars (2-4) (25-21, 25-18, 25-21) on Sunday afternoon from Allen Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Jaguars scored the first point on an Eva Dittmar kill, but the Bisons moved in front 2-1 on Kelsey Schenck's ace before the Jaguars answered with three straight points for a 4-2 lead.

The Bisons worked back even at 5-5 on Lexi Guinn's kill, tied it again at 6-6 on Sydney Strenger's kill, and moved ahead 9-7 behind an Ella Durham kill and a Jaguars bad set. A

fter the Jaguars pulled even at 10-10 and the teams traded points through 16-16, the Bisons moved ahead 19-16 with kills by Strenger, Brooklyn Fuchs and Durham.

The Jaguars cut the margin to 23-21 on Marissa Taix's ace, but Guinn answered with a kill for set point and Strenger closed the opening set at 25-21 with a kill from Schenck.

In set two, after the Jaguars scored the first two points and led 3-1, the Bisons moved in front with a stretch that included a Fuchs kill, a Guinn-Strenger block, a Grace Jones ace, and a Guinn kill before Anna Claire Brown's ace made it 7-4.

The Jaguars pulled within 8-7 on Cambria Gaier's kill, but the Bisons won seven of the next eight rallies, with kills from Fuchs, Durham, Brown, and Durham again around a Schenck ace to move ahead 15-8.

The Jaguars later closed to 17-15 on Halle Norvell's ace, but Brown and Guinn answered with consecutive kills, and a Guinn kill plus back-to-back blocks by Schenck and Strenger pushed the Bisons to 22-16.

Schenck's kill made it 23-17, Fuchs put the Bisons at set point at 24-18, and Durham closed the set at 25-18.

The Bisons built an early 3-0 lead in the third on kills by Brown and Durham, but the Jaguars answered with five straight points to move ahead 5-3.

Fuchs tied the set at 6-6 with a kill, and the Bisons moved back in front 8-6 before the Jaguars later used kills from Alexa Strandberg and Elyse Heffner and a Cambria Gaier ace to take a 13-11 lead.

The Bisons responded with six straight points, tying the set on Durham's kill, moving ahead on a Jaguars attack error, and stretching the lead to 17-13 behind Brown's kill and consecutive Schenck aces.

The Jaguars pulled within 21-20, but after a service error and one more Jaguars point, Schenck's kill and back-to-back attack errors closed the Bisons' 25-21 set win.

HERD NOTES
Lipscomb's 4-1 start to the 2026 season matches the best since 2017 and 2020 when they also went 4-1.

LUV improves to 3-0 against South Alabama in program history and 5-12 all-time against Sun Belt Conference foes.

KEY STATISTICS
Ella Durham led the Bisons attack with 14 kills and added seven digs.

Anna Claire Brown and Lexi Guinn each had 10.5 points on Sunday. Brown had nine kills and a service ace, while Guinn totaled 10 kills and assisted on a block.

Kenzie Kucks had a team-high 18 digs and was a perfect 8-for-8 in serve receptions, while Grace Jones added 10 digs.
