Stephen Lunney

Lunney is entering his sixth year as an assistant coach, and eighth year overall with the program having served as a graduate assistant for two seasons. During his time with the program, the Bisons have reached their first two NCAA Tournaments in program history. 

While his primary role is coaching the goalkeepers, Lunney is also responsible for assisting the head coach with team travel, budgeting, camps, compliance, scouting and recruiting.

Lunney's work with the keepers has yielded excellent results. The 2016 club set program records with only 19 goals allowed and five shutouts earned. 

Prior to joining the coaching staff at Lipscomb, Lunney played collegiately at Martin Methodist College. A 4-year starter and a 3-year captain, Lunney started 75 of 76 games, winning 2 conference titles and an NAIA National Championship (2013). He was named the MVP of the National Tournament.

Following a successful junior season, he was named SSAC Athlete of the Year and SSAC Student-Athlete of the Year. He was also named an All-American during his senior year and was a 3-time Academic All-American. Lunney was named NAIA Academic All-American of the Year for the 2013-14 season, and was twice named the NAIA Men’s Soccer All-American of the Year.

Lunney is originally from Dublin, Ireland. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Human Performance and Physical Education from Martin Methodist College and a Master’s of Business Administration degree from Lipscomb University. He is a USSF licensed coach and a holds an NSCAA GK Coaching Diploma.
