Known for his record-setting batting average, long home runs, aggressive base running, outstanding arm, and memorable defensive plays, centerfielder Brent McNutt is considered by many as one of Lipscomb Baseball’s greatest all-around players. Brent played for the Bisons from 1989-1992, taking part in 179 games, stroking 216 hits, and compiling an impressive career batting average of .388. The only player in Lipscomb Baseball history to record a season batting average higher than .400 two different years, Brent batted .436 in 1990 and .424 in 1992. He finished his career with 88 walks, 31 doubles, 12 triples, and 33 home runs. He also scored 192 runs and knocked in 107 RBI. As the Bisons’ leadoff hitter, Brent consistently impacted games with his ability to reach base and advance. His record-setting on-base percentage was .467 for his Bison career, and he stole 76 bases. His accomplishments were acknowledged by his honors: TCAC Player of the Year, All-District 24 and Honorable Mention NAIA All-American. Brent was named MVP for Bison Baseball in 1990 and 1992.
