Lipscomb To Close Out Home Stand Versus North Florida

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb baseball team will close out an eight-game home stand over the weekend with a series versus ASUN foe North Florida.

The Bisons (24-20, 8-7 ASUN) lost to UT Martin, 7-3, on Tuesday in their final midweek game of the year and are looking to get back on track in conference play.

The series will begin on Friday with first pitch at 6 p.m. Saturday’s game has been pushed back 30 minutes due to pregame celebration as it will be Senior Day for Lipscomb and its 10 seniors and will start at 6:30 p.m. Sunday’s game will be played at 1 p.m. All game times are subject to change, however, as rain and storms are predicted to be in the forecast over the weekend.

All three games can be seen on ESPN+ and live stats will also be available.

 

PROBABLE STARTERS:

Friday – RHP Chris Kachmar (6-3, 4.64 ERA) vs. RHP Brad Deppermann (5-2, 2.63 ERA)

Saturday – LHP Noah Thompson (3-4, 6.16 ERA) vs. RHP Nick Marchese (5-0, 3.08 ERA)

Sunday – RHP Joshua Colon (4-3, 3.13 ERA) vs. RHP Brandon Reitz (4-4, 4.61 ERA)

 

SCOUTING NORTH FLORIDA:

  • The Ospreys come into the contest with an overall record of 26-18 and are 8-6 in ASUN play.
  • North Florida is currently one spot ahead of Lipscomb in the ASUN standings in third place.
  • The Ospreys fell in their midweek matchup and lost to UCF, 9-7, in 11 innings their last time out.
  • UNF likes to score its runs early and often. They have scored 53 out of 253 total runs in the first inning, which is good for 20.9 percent.
  • Redshirt-senior Brad Deppermann has been an effective starter on the mound for North Florida this year. He is the Ospreys all-time leader in strikeouts and has fanned 82 batters this season, which ranks second in the ASUN.

 

AROUND THE HORN:

  • The Bisons have played well over their last six conference games. They took two of three against NJIT April 18-19 and swept Stetson last weekend to vault them into fourth place.
  • Senior Cade Sorrells has been a producer all season long for the Purple and Gold and leads the ASUN with 46 RBI.
  • Maddux Houghton ranks third in the conference in hitting at .342.
  • Chris Bashlor sits a few spots behind Houghton in the hitting department and is eighth in the ASUN at .326.
  • Senior righty Joshua Colon leads the Bisons pitching staff in ERA at 3.13 over 46 innings of work.
  • Chris Kachmar’s six wins have him tied for the second most in the ASUN and his 69 strikeouts on the year rank sixth.
  • Senior Closer Robbie Knox has recorded eight saves on the year, which is tied for the second most in the ASUN.
  • The Bisons will also show off their speed on the base paths and have swiped 64 bags on the year for second most in the conference.
  • Houghton leads Lipscomb with 14 stolen bases in 16 attempts.

 

UP NEXT:

The Bisons will travel to Lynchburg, Virginia next weekend for a three-game conference series against Liberty May 10-12. The series will kickoff on Friday at 5 p.m. CST.
