
Men's Soccer Begins Conference Play Saturday vs. Bellarmine

NASHVILLE - The Lipscomb men's soccer team returns to the pitch to begin ASUN Conference play as it hosts ASUN newcomer Bellarmine on Saturday afternoon.
The Bisons and Knights will kick off from the Lipscomb Soccer Complex at 3 p.m. CT with the match being broadcast on YouTube. Wes Boling and current Nashville SC player, Taylor Washington will be commentating the match.

- Bellarmine became an official member of the ASUN on July 1, 2020.
- In its final season in DII, Bellarmine went unbeaten during the 2019 regular season. The Knights finished the year 16-1-5 overall and set a new program record for wins.
- So far in 2021, the Knights have a record of 0-2, dropping matches to Xavier and Belmont.
- Two of Bellarmine's three DII All-Americans from last season are back in senior midfielder Micah Linscott and senior defender Eddie Williamson.
- The Knights also return 2018 GLVC Defensive Player of the Year Jonas Skulstad and junior goalkeeper Connor Range to bolster the back line.
- This will be the first game in two weeks for the Bisons as their previous match with Marshall was canceled due to the weather last week.
- Lipscomb is out to its best start in program history with a 3-0 record. The Bisons have collected wins over Alabama-Huntsville, East Tennessee State and Evansville.
- The Bisons had two players, Javanne Smith and Hayes Wood, earn ASUN Player of the Week honors this season. Smith was named on Feb. 9 and Wood was named on Feb. 16.
- Along with his ASUN Player of the Week honor, Smith was also named to College Soccer News National Team of the Week and Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the Week following his two goals and one assist performance against Evansville.
- Ryan Dougherty also earned a selection to Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the Week this season.The midfielder earned the honor after having a three-point match, notching a goal and the game-winning assist in Lipscomb's 2-1 win over ETSU.
- This will be the first ever meeting between the Bisons and the Knights.

Junior Noah Gulden was voted the ASUN Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. The two-time All-Conference honoree was one of three players unanimously selected to the Preseason All-Conference team.

The Bisons were picked second in the Preseason Coaches Poll, securing 49 points and one first-place vote.
