Baseball wins third straight, defeats Creighton 7-5

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb baseball team wrapped up its first weekend at home on a strong note Sunday, defeating Creighton 7-5 at Ken Dugan Field.

The win improved the Bisons to 5-2 on the year and capped a 3-1 weekend in Nashville.

Logan Van Treeck got the nod on the bump and went 5.0 innings with six punchouts and a walk. He allowed three runs on six hits in his second start of the week.

Creighton took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first after a leadoff double and then following with a triple.

After the Bluejays (2-2) added another in the second, Chaz Bertolani launched a 2-run shot over the fence for his first homer of the season to tie the game.

In the third frame, Brian Moore led off with a single to right field and after reaching third, he came home on a balk. Two batters later Chris Bashlor lifted a sac fly to left to make it a 4-2 Bison lead.

Ty Jones tacked on another tally in the fourth after a double steal allowed him to cross the dish.

With Lipscomb leading 5-3 in the eighth, the Bluejays managed to squeak across a pair of runs to pull back even.

In the home half of the frame, Maddux Houghton pounded a double down the left field line to start a 2-out rally. He later came home on a wild pitch to give the Bisons a 6-5 advantage. Brian Moore then followed with a double of his own to left to drive in Jones and give the purple and gold some cushion.

After entering in relief in the seventh, Tyler Guilfoil worked the ninth to earn his first victory of the season. He tossed 3.0 frames and struck out four batters.
