Bertolani's Four Hits leads Lipscomb to ASUN Series Victory over Owls

NASHVILLE – Explosive offense lead Lipscomb Baseball to defeat Kennesaw State 14-0 Sunday to open Atlantic Sun play with a series victory.

The Bisons out-hit the Owls 13-4 and struck out eight to secure the first shutout of the season. Chaz Bertolani lead the offense, going 4-for-four with two singles, two doubles, a walk and six RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lipscomb offense got going early in the matchup with Haddon Adams crushing a leadoff double.

After tagging up to third, Adams scored on a wild pitch to give the Bisons a 1-0 lead. However, Lipscomb wasn't done and plated another run when Bertolani knocked a RBI single up the middle for a 2-0 lead.

Logan Van Treeck really settled in on the mound and kept the Bisons' momentum going with a three up, three down top of the second.

The Bisons picked up where they left off offensively and continued to barrel the ball. A leadoff double by Brian Moore set things up nicely for Lipscomb. When a walk put two runners on with no outs, Tiger Borom delivered his second RBI of the series to give Lipscomb a 3-0 lead.

TWEET TIGER

The bats stayed hot as Chris Bashlor made contact with an RBI single to left field that allowed another Bison to score. The lead continued to grow for the Bisons when Bertonali notched his second hit in as many plate appearances that scored a couple more runs to balloon the lead 6-0 after two complete.

Lipscomb slowed down offensively in the third and fourth innings, but Van Treeck and the defense kept the Owls off the board.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Bisons heated back up and tacked on a couple more when Bertolani and and Wright scored on a balk and wild pitch respectively for an 8-0 lead.

Consistently putting runs on the board, Lipscomb scored another in the bottom of the sixth off another Bertolani RBI.

The flood gates opened in the home half of the seventh when Bashlor singled up the middle with two men on base to plate the first run of the inning. A sacrifice fly and yet another double by Bertolani stretched out the lead even further 13-0.

The final Lipscomb run came in the bottom of the eighth, making the final score 14-0.

Caleb Williams threw the final defensive inning and got the three outs needed to preserve the shutout.
