
Lipscomb Splits Doubleheader at Belmont

GAME 1
It didn't take long for Lipscomb to crack the scoreboard Tuesday afternoon. After a leadoff single from Tiger Borom, Robbie Merced hammered a ball down the left field line for his first home run of the season to give Lipscomb an early 1-0 lead.

Patrick Williams earned his first start of the season in game one of the doubleheader and cruised throughout the first three innings with two strikeouts and just one hit.

The Bisons increased its lead 3-0 in the top of the fourth when Maddux Houghton bunted for a single that scored Chaz Bertolani from third.

Things tightened up in the bottom of the fourth when Belmont scored three runs to tie the game 3-3.
Lipscomb retook the lead in the top of the sixth with a first-pitch home run for Malik Williams. His first long ball of the season gave the Bisons a 4-3 lead.

Belmont responded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to retake a 5-4 lead heading into the final scheduled inning of the game.
Lipscomb got runners on the corners but were unable to score the tying run in the bottom of the seventh as Belmont secured the 5-4 victory.
GAME 2
Once again, Lipscomb jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning. The leadoff walk came around to score after back-to-back singles from Chris Bashlor and Drew Donathan for a 1-0 lead.

Lipscomb increased its lead 5-0 in the top of the second. After the leadoff man was hit by a pitch, Houghton delivered a double to plate the second run of the game for the Bisons.

Home run number three of the season for Haddon Adams scored two more for a 4-0 lead.

Before the inning was over, Lipscomb scored one more run as Donathan delivered his second hit and RBI of the game for a 5-0 lead.
Belmont battled in the bottom of the inning with a few runs of their own to cut the Bisons' lead 5-3.
For the third-straight inning Lipscomb put runs on the board. After taking advantage of an error and a single from Houghton, Lipscomb had increased its lead 7-3. Adams continued his night at the plate with his third RBI of the game to give Lipscomb an 8-3 lead.

Lipscomb once again got on the board in the top of the fourth inning. After loading the bases by working three walks, Trey Ham delivered a sacrifice fly for the 9-4 lead.
After a scoreless fifth inning, Belmont put the pressure on Lipscomb with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to shrink the Bisons' lead 9-8.
Merced responded in the top of the seventh with a home run to left field to give Lipscomb a little bit of separation and a 10-8 lead.

Belmont scored early in the bottom of the seventh to put the pressure on the Lipscomb defense. Merced continued to own the seventh inning with an incredible defensive play that saved the winning run from coming around for Belmont.

Lipscomb was able to close out the inning for a 10-9 victory and Tyler Sills earned his first win of the season while Ike Buxton picked up his first save.
UP NEXT
Lipscomb will be on the road for an ASUN series this weekend as it travels to Liberty April 9-11. First pitch for the series is slated for 5:00 p.m. CT Friday night.
