TUCSON, Ariz. – Lipscomb Baseball's
Caleb Ketchup was named to Collegiate Baseball's 2022 Freshmen All-American Team, it was announced Wednesday. Ketchup was previously named the ASUN Defensive Player of the Year and was named to the ASUN All-Freshman Team. Ketchup is the first Bison in program history to be named a Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American.
Ketchup adds to his honors after making an immediate impact for Lipscomb as a redshirt freshman. The Atlanta, Georgia native covered an incredible amount of ground at shortstop finishing the season with 166 assists to lead the ASUN and 76 putouts on the season in addition to being part of 23 double plays. He fielded .938 on the season while continually making incredible plays. Offensively, Ketchup finished the season with a .284 batting average with 15 doubles, five homers and 24 RBI. Most impressively, he swiped 32 bags, a mark that ranks 13
th in the nation.
Lipscomb Baseball finished the season with a 35-23 overall record and a 20-10 ASUN record, improving from just 18 wins during the 2021 campaign. The Bisons won the ASUN West Regular Season Championship, Lipscomb Baseball's first regular season title since the 2008 season.
