Men’s Tennis Completes Weekend in Chattanooga

Box Score CHATTAGOOGA, Tenn. – Lipscomb men's tennis traveled East this weekend to take part in the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's Steve Baras Invite. The Bisons had a successful weekend in the Gateway to the South with two doubles teams making it to the finals for their flights as well as finals appearances in singles play for Carlos Salas Tulla and Antoine de Testaud.
 
Day one of the competition saw the Purple and Gold go undefeated in doubles play across all four of the squad's matchups. Juan Lombisano and Facundo Perlov went 7-5 over their Tennessee Tech opponents while Sebastian Dominguez and Henrique Ushizima went 6-2 over their own Golden Eagles foes.
 
Krzysztof Wetoszka and Matheus Lima claimed a win over another Tennessee Tech duo after a lengthy battle, earning the win at 7-6 (10-8). Carlos Salas Tulla and Antoine de Testaud brought home the squad's fourth doubles win of the day with their 6-4 win over a pair from Samford.
 
The Bisons then went on to secure four singles wins across the seven flights of play. Freshman Matheus Lima collected a 6-4, 6-7 (2-7), 10-7 victory over his opponent from ASUN foe Austin Peay while fellow newcomer Antoine de Testaud earned a 6-1, 6-1 win over his own APSU foe.
 
Juan Lombisano and Carlos Salas Tulla each brought home wins over opponents from UAB with straight set scores of 6-0, 6-3, and 6-3, 6-4 respectively.
 
The Bisons claimed a pair of wins in both doubles and singles play on day two. Dominguez and Ushizima went 6-2 over their second doubles win of the weekend over a duo from Tennessee Tech while Salas Tulla and de Testaud claimed a 7-5 win over a pair from Austin Peay to advance to Sunday's finals.
 
From the Bisons singles contingent, Salas Tulla and de Testaud brought home two more straight set singles wins to advance to Sunday's singles finals. Salas Tulla went 6-3, 6-4 over his Austin Peay opponent and de Testaud claimed a 6-1, 6-4 win over his Samford foe.
 
On the final day of competition, Dominguez and Ushizima brought home the doubles title for Flight B with a 6-1 win over a duo from Austin Peay. Salas Tulla and de Testaud put up a strong fight against their opponents from the University of Alabama in Birmingham, but finally fell 7-6 (8-6).
 
The squad's singles competitors put up valiant fights, taking their foes to three sets in each of their matchups. Salas Tulla fell 2-6, 6-2, 10-8 to his Golden Eagle foe and de Testaud fell 4-6, 6-0, 12-10 to his opponent from Chattanooga.
 
UP NEXT
The Bisons will hit the road once more to take part in the North Alabama Invite over Friday, Nov. 3rd – Saturday, Nov. 4th for their final tournament of the 2023 fall season.
