Miller Punches Ticket to 2023 Outdoor TF Nationals, Bisons Conclude NCAA East Preliminaries

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Lipscomb track & field wrapped up their most recent trip to Jacksonville for the 2023 NCAA East Preliminaries on Saturday night. The Bisons sent seven athletes to the meet for a myriad of events and their success across the board was highlighted by Lydia Miller's 12^th place finish in the 5,000m quarterfinals and subsequent advance to the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

The Purple & Gold sent Colbi Borland, Liza Corso, Kiara Carter, Aislinn McElhaney, Bella Jackson, and Austin Remick to Jacksonville for the four day meet along with Miller to compete in their respective events.

The first member of the squad to compete was Aislinn McElhaney in the long jump on Thursday. She logged a distance of 6.00m (19' 8.25") to finish sixth in the third heat and to claim 24^th overall. McElhaney was followed shortly by Liza Corso who clocked a time of 4:27.96 in the third heat of the 1,500m to cross the line 11^th in the third heat and finish 42^nd overall.

Next to compete was Kiara Carter in the 800m run and after an incredible rally following a fall when Carter was tripped up, she advanced to the quarterfinals held on Saturday from her time of 2:10.49. Colbi Borland wrapped up the Bisons' events on the second day of competition in the 10,000m race. After entering the event ranked 42^nd in the field, Borland crossed the line 18^th overall with a time of 34:20.00.

Austin Remick took to the track for the Bisons on Friday to represent the squad in the 3,000m steeplechase. He clocked a time of 8:57.21 to cross the line sixth in the first heat of the steeplechase and earned 17^th overall in the event.

The final day of competition dawned on Saturday and Bella Jackson collected the first result of the day for the squad. Jackson recorded a top height of 1.72m (5' 7.75") in the high jump to finish eighth in her heat and tie for 24^th overall. Shortly afterwards, Carter competed in the 800m quarterfinals and crossed the line 16^th overall with a time of 2:06.89 to finish sixth in her heat.

Colbi Borland and Lydia Miller wrapped up the weekend for the Bisons Saturday night as the duo competed in the 5,000m run. Miller ran first in heat one and Borland followed quickly after in heat two.

Miller punched her ticket to the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a decisive victory ats the fourth competitor across the line in the first heat at a time of 16:01.01 to finish 12^th overall. In heat two, Borland clocked a time of 16:18.15 to finished 21^st overall; wrapping up the squad's presence at the NCAA East Preliminaries.

Miller will travel to Austin, Texas to compete in the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 5,000m. The Championships will take place over Wednesday, June 7 through Saturday, June 10.
