Men’s Tennis Completes First Weekend of Fall Competition

Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb men's tennis began their fall season with their first tournament this weekend as they competed in the 2023 Belmont Fall Invite. Over the three days of competition, the Bisons faced off with Tennessee Tech, Belmont, and East Tennessee State.
 
With the addition of their new Bisons this season, the Purple and Gold tested out different lineups throughout the weekend and collected a smattering of wins against the three teams they faced off with at the tournament.
 
The Bisons faced off with the Golden Eagles for their first day of competition on Friday, September 8th. Lipscomb's squad dropped the initial doubles point to Tennessee Tech, but the squad bounced back in singles play. Lipscomb's squad picked up four straight set singles wins against their first foe of the weekend.
 
Krzysztof Wetoszka represented the Bisons at the top spot, collecting a 7-5, 7-5 win. Facundo Perlov picked up a 7-6(7), 7-5 win at court four and fellow newcomer Sebastian Dominguez collected a 6-3, 6-4 win over his own Tennessee Tech Opponent on court five.
 
Carlos Salas Tulla recorded the squad's fourth singles win over the Golden Eagles for the day as he went 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 6 spot.
 
Saturday's showing against Belmont further displayed a promising future for the Bisons as they put up an impressive showing against their familiar foe.
 
The Bisons opened the match scoring with the doubles point from a 6-1 win from Henrique Ushizima and Juan Lombisano on court two and a 6-4 win from Antoine de Testaud and Carlos Salas Tulla on court three.
 
Wetoszka put on a show for the Bisons at the top spot in singles play, claiming a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 win. He was joined in the win column by Facundo Perlov (3-6, 6-4, 6-2) and de Testaud (5-2, retired) on courts five and six respectively to seal Lipscomb's 4-3 win over the Bruins.
 
The Bisons then squared up with the ETSU Buccaneers on the final day of competition, earning their third doubles point in a row as Wetoszka and Sebastian Dominguez combined for a 6-3 win on court two while Perlov and Salas Tulla earned a 7-5 win on court three.
 
Wetoszka earned his third singles win of the weekend as he went 6-1, 6-1 on court one. Perlov (2-6, 6-1, 6-4) and Ushizima (0-6, 6-3, 7-6) both earned three set wins on courts two and five respectively.
 
As the seventh player, de Testaud took on Daniel Pérez Caraballo from Tennessee State University and earned a 6-3, 1-6, 10-8 win to conclude the weekend.
 
UP NEXT
The Bisons will return to action on Thursday, Oct. 12th at the ITA Regionals hosted by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
