Track & Field Women Claim Second, Men Fourth at ASUN ITF Championships

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Lipscomb track & field completed their second day of competition at the 2024 ASUN Indoor Track & Field Championships with a range of incredible performances from the Bisons. The Bisons added four individual ASUN Champion titles to their tally with a total of 11 podium appearances to add to their count from the first day, highlighted by a concerted effort from the women's team that resulted in the highest team finish at the meet in program history.
 
The Purple and Gold demonstrated their determination to succeed during the second day of the meet as Bella Jackson started things off on Saturday with a second-place finish in the women's high jump after recording a height of 1.77m (5' 9.75"), tying her personal best from the 2023 Commodore Challenge.
 
James Schmidt brought home the next podium appearance for the squad, claiming third place in the men's mile final with a time of 4:02.79.
 
Kiara Carter and Lydia Miller represented the women's team on the podium for the women's mile with Carter claiming first place and an individual ASUN Champion title and a second-place finish for Miller with times of 4:45.17 and 4:47.99 respectively. The duo was joined in the top-5 by Ellie Brewer, whose time of 4:49.56 earner her a fourth-place finish.
 
As the sprinters next stepped up to the starting line, freshman Braeden Ofosu-Kwarteng claimed the men's 400m dash individual title with his time of 47.05 seeing him fly past his competitors to cross the line first.
 
Aveion Hayes then brought home another top-5 finish for the squad, posting a time of 6.88 in the men's 60m dash finals, just one one-hundredth of a second behind his personal best time of 6.87 from Friday's preliminaries.
 
Kiara Carter then wowed once more as she delivered a commanding performance in the women's 800m finals to claim her second individual ASUN Champion of the day with a time of 2:07.93 in the event.
 
Ofosu-Kwarteng added another podium appearance to his tally as his time of 21.56 in the men's 200m dash finals earned him third place and Third Team All-Conference honors.
 
The Bisons then turned the heat up in the distance category as well, claiming second place in the men's 3,000m run with a 8:04.44 from Braedon Palmer before taking the top two places in the women's 3,000m run with a first place finish and individual ASUN Champion title for Lydia Miller (9:29.70) and a second place finish and Second Team All-Conference honors for Mackenzie Barnett (9:29.73).
 
Ellie Brewer and Colbi Borland joined Miller and Barnett in the top-5, logging times of 9:33.43 and 9:33.69 to finish fourth and fifth, respectively.
 
The women's team secured their final podium appearance of the day in the women's 4x400m relay as Abigail Alvarado, Lydia Miller, Kiara Carter, and Aislinn McElhaney combined for a program-record setting time of 3:45.79 to finish second overall.
 
The incredible work from every Bison at the meet resulted in 64 points and a fourth-place finish for the men's squad and 137 points and a second-place finish for the women's team. The women's finish stands as the highest team finish in program history at the ASUN Indoor Championship meet.
