Bryan Engle serves as the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Internal Affairs, after joining the Bison family on June 1, 2021.
He came to the Music City after spending the previous eight years at California Baptist University in Riverside, California where he served as an Associate Director of Athletics after being hired in 2013.
"Among a field of outstanding candidates, and from over 100 who applied, Bryan stood out as the right person for this job,” Philip Hutcheson, Lipscomb’s Director of Athletics, said. "Professionally, his experience and performance in his eight years at California Baptist and at his previous stops before that made it clear that he will be a tremendous asset to the Bison team the second he steps on campus. He has been a vital part of growing and successful programs and his knowledge and work ethic will add to what is already a great staff here.
"But more than the professional accomplishments, it was his personal connection to the values and mission of Lipscomb that made him such a fantastic fit. Over and over, and without exception, those we talked with about Bryan spoke to his love of the student-athlete experience, his servant-heart and his faith-in-action. And in talking with Bryan, it's clear that he was excited about the opportunity to work at a place that seeks to compete at the highest levels of NCAA DI competition with a Higher Calling in mind.”
At Lipscomb, Engle oversees the day-to-day operations, scheduling, maintenance and more with all of Lipscomb's facilities and athletic fields. He is the primary point of contact for Athletics with various other areas on campus, including scheduling of facilities for all games, practices and events, working service operations, housekeeping, food service, security and working with external groups as well.
He also serves as the sport administrator for Lipscomb’s baseball, volleyball, men’s tennis and women’s tennis programs.
At CBU, Engle was an integral part of the Senior Leadership team and in addition to his roles in leading the Facilities and Game Management departments in Athletics, he was the sport supervisor for the Lancers' baseball, men's soccer, women's soccer and softball programs.
In that role, he was responsible for day-to-day oversight of the coaching staffs and all aspects of the program. He was also the direct report for the Director of Aquatics at CBU, pertaining to all aquatics-related activities at CBU's pool, as well as the supervisor for the Equipment Manager who services all of CBU's athletic teams through the Lancers' Adidas contract. Previously, during Engle's first three years at CBU, he executed all aspects of Ticketing for the Lancers' programs.
A key contributor to the daily operations of the Athletics department, he was in charge of multiple facility upgrades to the Lancers' athletics programs. Topping the list, Engle was a lead administrator for the design and build of the $80 million CBU Events Center which seats over 5,000 for sporting events.
As part of his leadership role, he directed and coordinated the scheduling, maintenance, upgrades and capital improvement projects for all athletic facilities. Additionally, he was in oversight of upgrades to 20 of the Lancers athletic programs while also overseeing various construction projects related to those programs and their offices/teams rooms.
On-campus at CBU, in addition to the Athletics Senior Leadership team, Engle served on the following committees: Athletics Master Planning Committee, Presidents Staff Advisory Council, University Emergency Operations Committee. He also served on the Western Athletic Conference Sport Management Committee.
Engle is a board member with ADs for Christ, a non-profit organization that develops current and future collegiate athletic directors through spiritual growth and fellowship.
He also works with the Collegiate Event and Facility Management Association (CEFMA), which is a branch of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). CEFMA, in conjunction with NACDA, seeks to promote the growth, leadership, integrity and success of administrators and professional staff involved in collegiate athletics.
"Bryan served in many roles and was promoted numerous times as I gave him more responsibility every year," said Dr. Micah Parker, current Vice President for Athletics at California Baptist. "He is a strong believer who looks for opportunities to witness through his job. I personally saw and talked with students and staff members who were blessed by him as a person and a boss. He doesn't have an ego – he just works hard with a servant-like attitude. He is an excellent communicator regardless of the wide variety of people he works with."
Prior to CBU, from the fall of 2010 until 2013, Engle was the Director of TeamKid Sports at Second Baptist, a church of 64,000 members in six different locations in Houston, Texas. At Second Baptist, Engle oversaw the youth athletic programs, while also serving as an assistant baseball coach with the school and assisting with Athletics department operations.
Before that role, Engle worked at his alma mater Messiah College in Pennsylvania as an adjunct professor in sports management, administrator and head baseball coach. Under Engle's coaching leadership on the diamond, the Falcons grabbed their third conference title in his first year at the helm and compiled a 64-58-1 record over his three years as the program's head coach.
Engle earned his master's degree in sports management at the University of Kentucky in 2005, where he served as the Athletic Administration Graduate Assistant and oversaw the Nike contract as the Nike Logistics Coordinator. He also worked with the NCAA Division I Wildcats' marketing, operations, media relations and event management departments.
A former collegiate athlete himself, Engle was a key component of the Falcons' success and in 2013 was named to the Middle Atlantic Conference All-Century team. From the mound, Engle led the Falcons to the program's first Commonwealth Conference Championship as a 2003 senior, earning All-Mid-Atlantic Region and Conference Pitcher of the Year honors in the process. He graduated from Messiah College in 2003 with a bachelor's degree in sports and exercise science, with a concentration in sports management.
