Rex Brothers played for Lipscomb from 2007-2009 and is widely recognized as one of Lipscomb Baseball’s best pitchers. He led the Bisons to the program’s first Atlantic Sun Championship and NCAA Tournament berth. He was on the mound for the first-ever NCAA Tournament win for the baseball program, throwing 5.2 innings against the eventual 2008 National Championship runner-up University of Georgia team. The hurler threw more than 280 innings and picked up 16 wins through his three seasons. During his career, he compiled 322 strikeouts, five complete games, and had a 3.38 career ERA. One of the most decorated players in baseball history, he was the 2007 Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year, Second Team All-Conference selection, and a 2007 Louisville Slugger national All-Freshman Team member. He was also a member of the 2008 NCAA Athens Regional All-Tournament Team, a 2009 Atlantic Sun First Team selection, a 2009 Ken Dugan Award winner, and was named to the ASUN All-Decade Team. He etched his name into the Lipscomb record book as he finished his career with the program’s NCAA-era single-season strikeout record in 2009 (133). He also ranked top-10 in single-season games started (16; 2007), complete games (4; 2009), innings pitched (97; 2008), and strikeouts (97; 2008). At the end of his career, he also held career top-10 records for wins (12), ERA (3.38), strikeouts (225), complete games (5), and games started (30). After his college career, he was drafted in the first round (No. 34) of the 2009 MLB Draft by the Colorado Rockies. His professional career also included stops with the Chicago Cubs, Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees and Milwaukee Brewers.Â
