HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bisons got off to a rough start, going scoreless in the first four inning and quickly fell behind 7-0.
A big bottom of the fifth changed the momentum Lipscomb's way as it cut the Knights' lead 7-4.
With one out,
Maddux Houghton and
Brian Moore notched back-to-back singles to give the Bisons a couple base runners with just one out.
A walk loaded the bases, but the next batter struck out for out number two, sending
Chaz Bertolani to the plate needing a hit. Bertolani came up big with an infield chopper and everyone advanced safely, sending Lipscomb's first run across the plate.
In a glimpse to what was to come, Bashlor delivered a base-clearing double that shrunk the Bellarmine lead 7-4.
The Bisons continued to cut into the lead in the bottom of the sixth, scoring on a sacrifice fly to make it a 7-5 ballgame.
Ike Buxton took over the mound in the top of the seventh and shut the Knights down. He kept Bellarmine scoreless through the seventh and eighth innings with three strikeouts to keep Lipscomb in striking distance.
Lipscomb's bats stayed hot in the bottom of the eighth to take the lead. After two walks and a sacrifice bunt, the Bisons had the tying runs in scoring position.
Needing to make something happen,
Tiger Borom beat out an infield hit for an RBI and represented the go-ahead run.
After an intentional walk loaded the bases, Bashlor again stepped up and delivered a huge double that scored two for an 8-7 lead.
Lipscomb would score one more as Bertolani crossed home plate during a rundown, giving the Bisons a cushion.
