Baseball Drops Saturday Contest At Kentucky
3/2/2024 2:45:00 PM | Baseball
The Wildcats took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when a leadoff walk came around to score on a double to deep right center field. Collin Witzke, however, stranded a runner in scoring position with a strikeout to end the inning.
Kentucky added a pair of runs in the bottom of the second with another double, but Witzke made an athletic play, diving to grab a foul ball outside the first base line, to get out of the inning.

After going down in order for the first two innings, Travis Stapleton worked a two-out walk in the top of the third, but he was stranded as the Bisons still looked to get on the board.
In the third inning, Joey Mitchell took over on the mound with one out. A UK sacrifice fly plated one more before the inning was over and the Wildcats took a 4-0 lead in to the fourth inning.
The top of the fourth inning saw the Bisons' first hit of the afternoon when Mason Lundgrin delivered a one-out single through the right side for Lipscomb's second base runner of the game.

Trace Willhoite was the next Lipscomb batter and he was hit by a pitch, pushing Lundgrin to second giving Lipscomb its first runner in scoring position. The next batter, Carter Richey, took advantage of a belt high off-speed pitch and plated Lipscomb's first run of the game when Lundgrin rounded third and came home.

The damage was limited to a run as a deep fly ball ended the inning for the Bisons sending Mitchell back to the mound.
Kentucky responded with a five-run fourth inning to increase its lead 9-1 heading into the fifth.
In the sixth inning, the Wildcats plated seven more runs to take a 16-1 advantage.
Kentucky retired the Bisons in order in the top of the seventh and saw out a 16-1 victory in seven innings on Saturday afternoon.
