Men's Soccer Opens ASUN Play with Win over Queens

NASHVILLE -- Lipscomb defeated Queens 3-1 on Saturday at Lipscomb Soccer Complex to begin ASUN play with three points. The Bisons scored all three of their goals in the second half after trailing 1-0 at halftime. This match marked the first ASUN match of the season for both teams.
First Half
- A physical opening stretch kept the match scoreless, with both sides drawing early yellow cards and the Bisons' Tobías Sosa giving the Bisons an early chance with an enticing cross across the face of goal.
- Queens created pressure midway through the half, including an Iker Carew shot off the left woodwork and an Alex Kara save on Nathan Tozzi after a corner kick.
- Queens went ahead 1-0 in the 34' minute when Luis Vera Mayorca scored off assists from Isaac Chromey and Carew
- The Bisons had a good stretch of play just before the half with shots from Alejandro Valcarce, Enzo Evangelista and Mathew Arias Sinclair.
Second Half
- Kara saved a Queens shot in the 46' minute and then the momentum swung for the Bisons.
- In the 52' minute, Yonis Kired converted a penalty kick after a successful Lipscomb coaches' challenge to level the match 1-1.
- Queens put together a few shots over the next few minutes, but Lipscomb netted another in the 68' minute.
- James Pidutti scored from the spot after drawing a foul in the box.
- The half turned physical with a stretch that included multiple fouls and cards before a red card to Nathan Tozzi.
- The Bisons added pressure late, with Kylian Karsenty taking a shot and the Bisons earning a corner before Jorge Morejon scored in the 86' minute to make it 3-1, and the Bisons finished with a 3-1 win.
Pidutti scored the game-winning goal, converting his lone shot on goal from the penalty spot. Kireh also converted a penalty and was credited with a game-tying goal. Morejon added an unassisted goal and finished with two shots. Kara played all 90 minutes in goal and made three saves while allowing one goal.
The Bisons are 1-2-1 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play. Queens is 0-4-0 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play.
