Track & Field Completes Music City Challenge with Aplomb

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb track & field returned home to Music City for their final tune up before the 2024 ASUN Indoor Track & Field Championships. The Bisons competed at the Music City Challenge, hosted by Vanderbilt, and collected five new program records and 21 personal bests.
 
The Bisons were firing on all cylinders through both days of the meet, tallying 20 top-10 finishes with eight podium appearances from the Purple and Gold.
 
Bella Jackson and Aislinn McElhaney represented the women's field team on the podium. Jackson logged a height of 1.76m (5' 9.25") in the invite section of the women's high jump, claiming third place in the event while McElhaney earned first place in the seeded section of the women's high jump with her distance of 6.34m (20' 9.75").
 
Gabriel Martin and Dimitri Kemp represented the men's field squad in the top-5 of the open men's long jump with distances of 7.11m (23' 4") and 7.04m (23' 1.25"), respectively. Martin and Kemp both earned personal bests with their distances, and Martin's jump set a new program record over the previous distance of 7.05m, set by Phillip Smith in 2014.
 
On the track side, Aveion Hayes and Nathan Wallace brought home two more personal bests for the men's team. Hayes clocked a 21.90 in the men's 200m dash while Wallace logged a 50.58 in the men's 400m dash.
 
Kiara Carter clocked two personal bests and program records for the mid-distance crew. She posted a 2:04.18 to finish third in the women's 800m run before running a 4:37.93 in the women's mile to claim first place. Her mile time replaces the former record of 4:43.89 which was set by Dani Walker in 2013 at the ASUN Indoor Championships.
 
The men's distance squad brought home two more program records as Bryan Hernandez-Rios put up a blazing 8:05.49 in the men's 3,000m. Braedon Palmer clocked a time of 13:56.29 in the men's 5,000m run to finish first overall and break the previous record of 14:01.10 set by Brent Leber in 2020.
 
Palmer was joined by Ben Butcher (14:26.74), AJ Goecker (14:40.84), and Evan Allen (15:14.33) in the event and all four Bisons clocked personal bests.
 
The women's distance medley relay team of Juane' Klaus, Allena Klamorick, Grace McGuckin, and Kaylee Wilson clocked a time of 12:38.01 to claim the squad's final first place finish of the weekend.

The Bisons will return to the track on Friday, Feb. 23rd for the first day of the 2024 ASUN Indoor Track & Field Championships in Gainesville, Fla.
